The True Story of the Margherita

Many of our customers wonder why our signature pizza is called the Margherita. Is it an alcoholic beverage? Is it the famous ship from the Revolutionary War battle in Machias?

Here's the story:

In 1889 Queen Margherita of Italy visited Naples during a royal tour of the newly united country and a chef created a pizza in her honor: the colors of the Italian flag, Green, Red, and White. (Red Tomato Sauce, White Fresh Mozzarella Cheese, Green Basil) This pizza has since been called Pizza Margherita in her honor. And of course, cooked in a wood fired brick oven.

Enjoy a taste of Italy! We are in Perry on Tuesdays, Dennysville on Wednesdays, and Eastport on Thursday nights.
